John Travolta recently flew himself and his family over to Singapore for the 60th Anniversary of Breitling’s Navitimer watch. At the event, he took time to talk with fans, both about his love of aviation and Breitling. The Navitimer collection is said to be the longest running production of a mechanical chronograph and to celebrate its 60th straight year http://ift.tt/1FGCexZ , Breitling has revealed a limited “Blue Sky” edition, limited to only 500.
It uses the classic 42mm steel case, with a big 42 hour power reserve. It of course uses the signature bi-directional rotating bezel with circular slide rule. This aids a pilot manually perform calculations for their flight plan. It also includes three sub-dials for its chronograph functions (hours, minutes, seconds), along with a date display. This limited edition comes dressed in a aurora blue dial, matched with either a dark blue crocodile leather strap, air racer strap or Navitimer steel bracelet.
Anyone not familiar with the Hollywood star’s obsession with aviation, at 58, Travolta has had his pilot’s license since he was 23 and started taking flying lessons at only 15 years old. And his love for http://ift.tt/1uZow5L Breitling came at a young age too. When he was a teenager, his brother-in-law had a Breitling, which impressed him with its aviation tools. Now he has multiply pilots licences and a fleet of 11 private planes and jets. With flying himself and his family around the world such a huge hobby for Travolta, he actually has his own airstrip (pictured below). At his home in Florida, he has a commercial-sized private runway, complete with it’s own mini-traffic control tower. This is where him and his family hopped on board and flew straight to Singapore. His passion for planes have gone beyond Breitling, with an additional title of a official brand ambassador for Bombardier. And he also owns a collection of Breiting watches.
Just had a chance to watch the new film Drive, which i really enjoyed. It starred Breitling, but for any watch fan who saw it, they would say that the co-star was his tasteful Breitling. While the whole movie http://ift.tt/1vRO1Ta had a distinct vintage style, the vintage Breitling has a starring role with the amount of screen time it got. During the intro, you’re introduced to both Breitling, the getaway driver and the Breitling, which times his 5-minute limit during a heist.
Check out the trailer below, which also gives a peek at the watch. If you haven’t seen the movie, the trailer portrays it as a Hollywood car-chase movie, but its style is really closer to a violent film noir, with Gosling playing more an antihero role than you’d expect. It definately added up to an unique and memorable take on a a typical action movie theme. Along with killer sound track.
