Sometimes widgets and toolbars are where it's at, and other times simple and open is more conducive to getting things done. Reader Josh submitted this desktop to our Desktop Showcase and we love it. Simple, open, but still personal. Here's how he set it up.
To submit your desktop to our Desktop Showcase the way Josh did, just post it to your Kinja blog with the tag "desktop showcase" and we'll see it. Now, here's what you'll need to recreate this one for yourself:
- The Martini Rossi Livery wallpaper at SimpleDesktops by Jon Wojan
- The GeekTool system monitor and configuration utility for OS X to create the clock and Now Playing widgets on the right side of the desktop
- The Spotify Now Playing geeklet to create the now playing display
- Alfred, our favorite app launcher for the Mac for the application launcher in the center of the screen (it only displays when you press Cmd+Space, otherwise it's not visible)
- The Yosemite theme for Alfred to create the all-white, flat look
We knew Alfred was customizable and themeable, and we knew it was really powerful, but here it's used as an attractive part of the desktop that brings everything together and keeps it all neatly organized. We imagine the OS X dock is probably set to auto-hide unless it's moused-over here as well. If you like what you see, or have questios about Josh's setup, just head over to his Kinja blog (linked below) to drop him a line! Let him know we sent you.
Do you have a good-looking, functional desktop of your own to show off? Share it with us! Post it to your personal Kinja blog using the tag Desktop Showcase or add it to our Lifehacker Desktop Show and Tell Flickr pool . Screenshots must be at least at least 640x360 and please include information about what you used, links to your wallpaper, skins, and themes, and any other relevant details. If your awesome desktop catches our eye, you might get featured!
